Piston cooling water system

In the name of Allah who is the most beneficient and merciful

The cooling medium for the pistons varies with different engines, it may be frsh water, distilled water or lub. oil.
This system is indepentdent of the jacket system. The circulating pump draws water from a drain tank, passing it through
a cooler to the pisotn cooling inlet glands . cooling returns pass through sight glasses and thermometers before flowing
by gravity to drain tank. A heating coil fitted in the drain tank allows heating when warming of the engine is required
before starting the main engine.

  1. Hi all,

The coolant used for removing and conveying the heat from a piston may be either fresh water, distilled water or lubricating oil. Water has the ability to remove more heat than lubricating oil. This can be seen from the fact that the specific heat of water is approximately 4 while specific heat of lube oil is about 2. Thanks a lot....
